Large Cavities Can Be Repaired with Inlay or Onlay Fillings

Posted .

Sometimes even the most thorough oral hygiene regimen, simply isn’t enough to prevent a cavity from forming on one of your teeth. Dr. Rosendo Garza’s regular dental checkup will detect any cavities that form in your mouth. Should you notice one of your teeth change in texture or develops heightened sensitivity, you should have it examined at your earliest convenience.

Cavities that form on molars and premolars, can sometimes be very large. To repair one, Dr. Rosendo Garza might need to use an inlay or an onlay filling.

These types of fillings are commonly made from either porcelain or gold. This often means the fillings need to be produced at a dental lab, and then cemented into place at a brief follow up appointment. The only real difference between these two types of fillings is related to the size and location of the tooth decay.

Inlays are used to repair large cavities on the biting surface of molars and premolars. Onlays are used to repair larger an area of decay that extends from the biting surface to the side of a tooth.

If you suspect a cavity has formed on one of your back teeth, you should have it examined at your earliest convenience. Please call Dr. Rosendo Garza’s office in Rialto, California at 909-421-8787 to set up an appointment.
